The Problem part 2
I've remembered somemore things about the situation with Mom and thought I'd post again instead of adding to the other one.
You won't believe her reason for her even starting to drink (from what she has said anyway.)When she was younger, she was in a car accident and messed up her back and she never had anything done about it and has had back pain ever since. Well, according to her, that was her way to stop the pain. she told that to the doctor when he asked why she was drinking and he pretty much said that's a cop out.
She's also a friggin chain smoker. Well, not now she's not cause she can only get outside a couple times a day now. If she was here, she'd be back up to her 2 packs a day (at least that much) yes, she's killing herself basically but, you pretty much can't tell her that. (The stubbornness)
Christmas was a nightmare. Like I said, she can't use her hands that great. So, whenever she wants a smoke, someone has to hold it for her. Well, me and my Dad went to pick her up cause my Aunt had invited us for dinner. before we left the nursing home, she wanted a smoke. OK, fine. When we got to my Aunts (about 15 mins later) she wanted another, she got both at this point. When we left my Aunts, she wanted another (by this time my Dad's getting way beyond pissed. (he's a non smoker) When we got her back to the nursing home, she wanted ANOTHER. this time, my Dad blew his top, said she was inconsiderate of others (it was cold as heck that day.) My Mom said "fine, don't do it anymore". Which, of course was music to my Dad's ears. He hasn't done it since as far as I know.
For those that didn't understand why she is in a nursing home, that is where she was sent from the hospital. If Dad and my Sister didn't have to work, we might be able to do things. Hell, then again now that I think about it, my Sister TRIED helping her but, it got to be to much on her with her working and stuff. Mom pretty much (as of right now) needs 24 HR care.
At one point (which i forgot to mention in my last post) my sister did lay into her cause she was tired of getting it for her. since she wasn't moving from the couch. when my sister told her she refused, she again put on a guilt trip. Which we should of just let her do at that point. (maybe?) but, when she starts bitching, I guess it's just better to shut her up than listen to her. That's bad I know. But, hopefully she will stop drinking after this. As for her smoking, If she still can, she will. She had supposedly told my Aunt that as of Jan 1st she was going on the patch. When I mentioned that I heard she said that, she said "I told her I was thinking about it." Again, another cop out. She didn't go on the patch BTW.
If I think of anything MORE, I'll post it. otherwise, I'll just start posting updates from her Dr. apts.
