Hospital
I was going to post on Tuesday the 17th saying that I was going tobe away for about a week but, for whatever reason, I didn't. Really the only reason I had even thought about it was so I didn't get PMs and such saying "Hey you haven't updated in "X" amount of time"...RHONDA! :-) Sorry but I had to get a "dig" at you somehow :-) ALL in FUN. So, Wednesday morning about 5:00 rolls around ( WAY earlier than I'm used to being up) Mom starts calling me to get up and moving. I have roughly an hour drive ahead of me needing to be there at 7:30 for surgery at 8:30, looking back I should of gotten up at 5, because we wanted to leave at about 6:30. Since I'm a procrastinator we didn't really leave on time. A few things side tracked us on the way there though.
1. You aren't going to get very far on an almost empty gas tank!
2. The mirrors were out of place so, had we not adjusted them we couldn't see to merge into other lanes. They still weren't exactly right after messing with them but, we had the clock running. So, back on our way we went.
A while after we had gotten on the freeway, we had got to a part where the sun was shining in just so that it lit up the inside of the van to where I was able to see a problem... the inside of the van was smoking! I saw a piece of cardboard against the vent so, thinking that was the problem, I quickly removed it. When that didn't help, we called my Dad to see what he had to say. Not much he could do and by that time, we were almost to the hospital. So, we just watched it closely. Got there about 7:40ish oh well, at least we got there at all. I then went to find where I was supposed to be, got lost and got redirected. I then went into this room where I changed into a hospital gown. A nurse then came in and proceeds to ask me the normal B.S. questions that they ask before you have surgery. " What was the last time you ate?" "Are you allergic to anything?" blah, blah, blah.BTW, yes I am allergic to something but, more on that later. She then put an I.V. in my hand which, wasn't that bad but, it'd be better if it didn't pinch! LOL. 10 minutes or so later I was then wheeled off for my surgery. By this time, it's roughly 8:30 I'm guessing. The hallway outside the O.R. was a ICEBOX!(as was the O.R. it self.)I was so cold that I had more blankets added to me. At this point, I had two or three Drs. talking to me who they were, what they do, etc. I had then asked if it would be possible if I could be awake because the last time I had surgery, I got sick when I woke up and I didn't want that to happen again if at all possible. They said I didn't have to be put to sleep. WOOHOO! They did however give me a relaxer which in turn DID put me to sleep a couple of times but at least I wasn't gassed.
I was in recovery around 11:00 til 3:15 cause they needed to get a room set up for me. So, from 3:15 to 5:00 I was in a "holding" area waiting for a room. While I was in recovery, I noticed I had a bit of a stomachaceh but, I just figured it was because they had me on I.V. fluids during surgery and I just had to use the restroom. That didn't totally get rid of the pain although it did decrease it. I complained about it EVERYDAY I was there and the didn't seem very worried about it.
Monday at some point, The Dr comes in the room, he then hits me with a interesting surprise, my red blood cell count (I think)is down and I NEED BLOOD! He said that and I got scared out of my mind. I guess I was just scared that I'd get some disease or something. So, one he and my Mom talked to me, I told him to go ahead and do it. About four hours later, I was getting the blood.
Tuesday I get an even worse stomacache then I had been having the previous days. I got short of breath and my heart started racing! The Dr comes in and says they're going to do an X-ray. ABOUT TIME! I've only been complaining for a week!! Before the X-ray they did an EKG while they are doing that (or was it before?) I was talking to Steph on the Phone. Man, what would I have done if I didn't have to her to talk to? I should also mention that I had talked to Terri Sunday for a while. So, anyway, as I'm talking to Steph, I asked if Terri was online and sure enough she was. I told Steph to relay the goings on with me but to watch out cause I KNEW Terri would go nuts and go into a worried Mom mode. well, atleast a worried mode. Yep again. Steph starts reading back what's being said and Terri's just going nuts. I don't know because I never asked but, I kinda bet she was crying. at least a little bit. I can't remember but, I might of called Terri that night. Then again, it might of been the next day or not even at all. That night was such a rush of crap going on I don't remember much after getting off with Steph for some reason or another rather quickly. Dr probably wanted to do a temp check or some darn thing. As It turned out because I was breathing heavy and my heart was racing, they put my catscan on hold for the night So, I figured since they said "for the night" that they weren't gonna do it til the morning. HA! WRONG! They came to get me at 1:15 AM! Glad I wasn't sleeping! They did what they had to do and I was back in my room about an hour later. Seeig as they got me at the time they did, I would of rathered they came to get me in the morning after I HAD slept but, I don't make the rules. It felt like I had just fallen asleep when I'm being woken up for a vitals check, (blood pressure, temp heart rate) all the normal stuff they do at stupidest of hours. It's at this time I look at the clock to see what time it is. 5:00 *grumbles to myself at the time* then I think to myself "I've been up for who knows how long and you wake me up for THIS!?!"
Breakfast came at 8:00 I was still sleeping at the time but, I woke up enough to tell them to leave it on the tray table. I then went back to sleep for another hour. LMAO!
Now we come to Wednesday a full week since I got into the hospital this was the day I figured I would be released because they said at the beginning that I'd be in that long. Obviously, with what happened Monday and Tuesday, I knew I wouldn't be released this day. 7:30 Friday Morning comes and the Dr. that did my surgery comes in and checks everything and says I could be released! I asked when he thought t hat would be as I had to make a phone call for someone to come get me. He tells me "probably early afternoon" ok, cool! So, he leaves and I jump on the phone. and call home (as well as a friend) I shouldn't of bothered getting my stuff packed as early as I did (10-10:30ish) because I didn't end up getting my released papers til 3-3:30ish. There's where I get pissed off. I have an allergy to latex and had a wrist band on that said such. All the Dr's and nursed did fine with using non latex gloves throughout my stay until the nurse went to take out my I.V. the dum fool used latex gloves and my arm got red and both hands/fingers got super itchy. I got some Benadryl but that didn't help me. It finally went away sometime later that upcoming week. I was finally being wheeled out sometime around 5:00 PM. There it is folks. one heck of a week and two days with a little bit of everything tossed in!
